I know you don't wan to hear it, But I'm going to say it because it is a GOOD answer. Ceasar Milan books especially Being the Pack Leader. Training your dog is not just about your dog learning something...it's about the owner learning too.
References :
IF this person does indeed have a dog that behaved in that manner, there is no book anywhere that will be able to help her with this dog!!!
I don't know how old the dog is, what breed or whatever, but, if that person were responsible enough, that dog would have had a lot of training in it by now..if it has not happened yet and the situation was allowed to progress this far, no book will be able to help her!
This is not a situation of a book, this is a situation of laziness or ignorance!!! Hope I helped!
References :
Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson, Power of Positive Dog Training by Pat Miller, any book by Ian Dunbar, How to be Leader of the Pack by Patricia McConnell --are all good.

She might be able to find these all pretty cheaply on Amazon.com, and I think if the order is over $25, the shipping is free.
References :
amazon.com has a list of the most popular and "best" dog training books. Here is a link to that list of dog training books: http://www.amazon.com/Best-Books-on-Dog-Training/lm/Q30N260PKEEA

I have never read it, but I have heard a lot of good things about the first book on that list, Karen Pryor's Don't Shoot the Dog! So, perhaps suggest that one to her. Or just forward her a list like the one that amazon.com has; and with that list on amazon you can click on the books' titles and then read info about them. So, that may help her to decide which books would be most helpful to her.

Best wishes!
References :
WELL. when i was looking for books and lit. on training, i found there were 2 sides: positive reinforcement and "old fashioned training". it seemed very black and white too..i think it really will depend on how the dog responds..whether pos. reinforcement or negative reinforcement or both. I really think she needs the support of a behaviorist though..like say to use a soft muzzle..she can't just walk into the situation with the help of books imo..it would be dangerous.

she might want to find some nonprofit orgs that have dog training...one of the shetlers in my area does nonprofit dog training..it's cheaper and not any worse quality than paying more for one.

if she has internet, this group is very professional http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/agbeh/
