Doberman Pinscher
“The Doberman Pinscher (alternatively spelled Dobermann in many countries) or Doberman is a breed of domestic dog. Doberman Pinschers are among the most common of pet breeds, and the breed is well known as an intelligent, alert, and loyal companion dog. Although once commonly used as guard dogs, watch dogs, or police dogs, this is less common today. In many countries, Doberman Pinschers are one of the most recognizable breeds, in part because of their actual roles in society, and in part because of media attention (see temperament). Careful breeding has improved the disposition of this breed, and the modern Doberman Pinscher is an energetic and lively breed ideally suited for companionship and family life.

Doberman Pinschers were first bred in Germany around 1890 by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann. After his death in 1894, the Germans named the breed Dobermann-pinscher in his honor, but a half century later dropped the pinscher on the grounds that this German word for terrier was no longer appropriate. The British did the same thing a few years later. Dobermann was a tax collector who frequently traveled through many bandit-infested areas, and needed a protection dog to guard him in any situation that might arise. He set out to breed a new type of dog that, in his opinion, would be the perfect combination of strength, loyalty, intelligence, and ferocity. (He also worked with dogs in his second job as local dog-impounder, giving him access to dogs for breeding.) Later, Otto Goeller and Philip Gruening continued to develop the breed to become the dog that is seen today.
The breed is believed to have been created from several different breeds of dogs that had the characteristics that Dobermann was looking for, including the Pinscher, the Beauceron, the Rottweiler, the Thuringian Shepherd Dog, the black Greyhound, the Great Dane, the Weimaraner, the German Shorthaired Pointer, the Manchester Terrier and the old German Shepherd Dog-now extinct. The exact ratios of mixing, and even the exact breeds that were used, remains uncertain to this day, although many experts believe that the Doberman Pinscher is a combination of at least four of these breeds. The single exception is the documented cross with the Greyhound. It is also widely believed that the old German Shepherd (now extinct)gene pool, was the single largest contributor to the Doberman breed. The book entiled, “The Dobermann Pinscher,” written by Philip Greunig (first printing in 1939), is considered the foremost study of the development of the breed, by the most ardent students of the breed. It describes the early development of the breed by Otto Goeller whose hand allowed the Doberman to become the dog we recognize today.”

buying a puppy will be better that way you can train it the way you want it and it will always know you thats what my brother did with his dog and shes the best dog we ever had =)

for first time …
for first time doberman/dog owners, is adopting an adult dog better or adopting a puppy. I was looking at a doberman adoption center in Georgia and they were very strict about who adopts these dogs. They recommended people without children…and that just kind of scared me just a little but I REALLY WANT ONE!! XD any advice?

Some thieves came …
Some thieves came several times to my house and they always took what they wanted to, so I looked for a dog at dog shelters but couldn’t found anyone big enough and when I was without hope and saying that I’ve always loved dobies 2 ladies told me that there was a homeless doberman at their neighborhood I couldn’t belive how lucky I was, It was a dobie so I took her to my place and now she’s my sweet 1 year old baby, no more thieves and I don’t call to the police I have a DOBERMAN LOL

I get my dobies …
I get my dobies from Doberman Rescue; Dallas, TX, they do an excellent job of taking care of adoptions. My little old girls is going on 12 to 15 yrs old and has some problems never related to the ear. When I got her she was anywhere from 5 to 7 yrs. old and her ears were natural. Her health problem now are related to old age. I suggest to anyone wanting a Doberman to check out the rescue centers, just Google it up and there should be one close by to where you live.

Aesthetics r a …
Aesthetics r a matter of opinion. Function and health, however, r not. Those who whine–’cropping is so unnatural’ Hmm–how’s this 4 unnatural: U inbreed an animal (wolf, jackal, etc.) until their ears flop over, lengthen, so they r more prone to injuries and infections (yeast, etc.) muffles their hearing ability, and they cannot signal visual cues easily. If done correctly (not removing 2 much bell (base of ear) u r simply restoring a more natural state. Any floppy eared wild canines? NO.

Actually, there is FAWN, RED, BLACK, and BLUE. All should have the markings. the blues r notorious for skin problems. Whites and albinos r not officially recognized.

The most beautiful Dobermans I have ever seen have not had their ears clipped, nor tail clipped.

I had 1 …
cont..
I had 1 Doberman cropped and 1 that had no crop. The 1 with no crop (not cut) had pretty many ear infections the other 1 didn’t have any. Also about the dew claws it’s better that these are removed because Dobermans like to grab and tussle I’m sure it’s a lot more painful to get a dew claw ripped off then cut off. These parts are removed from the dog for good reason not to cause pain.

Although I feel …
Although I feel Dobermans are the best looking dogs out there. Their look is not really cosmetic it serves a purpose. Dobermans ears are cropped so there isn’t as much for an aggressor to get a hold of same thing with the tail. Besides the function there is another good thing about cropping the ears. They hardly ever get ear infections because the ear canal always has air getting into it to keep it dry.

At :31 it shows the …
At :31 it shows the “four” types of dobermann. Gray, black and red. The grays have a skin mutation so theyr not quite right but i loved the one we used to have. And the albino one i dont know a lot about.

I am getting a dobe …
I am getting a dobe next year, and I will be keeping her as natural as possible, with tail and ears intact. As she will not be a working dog, which is the reason why the cropping of the ears and docking of the tail was brought on, she will keep all of her parts! Except neutering, which the main benefit is to lesson the risk of cancer and problems with her “bits” later on in life. The photo on this video of the Dobe with the rose is beautiful and elegent and what I am going for! x

Here here! I love all dogs but I only owned and will only own Dobermans! I would make an exception for a few other “Dobie-ish” breeds but Dobermans just do it for me!
